Hatfield Peverel 1 Thaxted Rangers 2
What a match to finish the season with! Playing the entire game with 10 men against the likely league winners on a pleasant morning it looked at the start that there was going to only be one outcome. However, Thaxted had other thoughts and a monumental performance saw them come out on top. The defence - this week of Jonathan Weekes (Goallie), Bradley Smith, Will Paget, Simon Thornberg and Ben Jolliffe - were excellent throughout. They repelled so many attacks and with such confidence too. The midfield and attack of Alex Gunn, Cory Smith, Harris Tzen, Ryan Crow and Sam Hibbs certainly played their part too, Alex was tireless in his running and won the man of the match award for his efforts. The score at half-time was goaless and in the second-half Thaxted took the lead through a goal from Harris (his third of the season) after a goalmouth scramble. Hatfield then piled on the pressure and this paid in the end when they equalised. Hatfield didnt let up after this as they went all out for the win. Thaxted were still creating the odd chance though and one of these was created by a long run by Alex whose cross worked its way through to Cory who put it in from short range to increase his tally to 11, enough to win Thaxted's golden boot for the season. Well done lads for a highly enjoyable match and indeed season too - here's looking forward to next season. A special thanks too for Jeremy and Andy who have given up a lot of their time this season and have crafted a team that improved visibly throughout the season.

Thaxted Rangers 1 Focus Ferrers 2
Thaxted's excellent unbeaten run came to finish in a tight fought sole evening fixture against Focus Ferrers. Full credit goes to Focus who in the first half really tried to play the ball about and succeeded in dominating the midfield for the first third of the game. There was no score for some time but they scored two goals both very well taken to go in at half-time 2-0 up. Their first was a beautifully taken free kick that gave Jonathan Weekes in goal no chance and the second they buried in the corner. Thaxted came back into the game after this and even in the first half they were starting to create the odd half chance. Thaxted in fact won the second half with a well worked goal. Ben Jolliffe won a free kick on the right-hand side when he was unceremoniously upended after getting past the defender. James Richardson took the free kick which Will Paget knocked by the keeper for his first goal of the season. In the time left the game was quite open but Thaxted couldnt create the clear opening they required. Jack Flood took home the Man of the Match trophy. Team: Jonathan Weekes, Luke Ormsby, Harris Tzen, Will Paget, Simon Thornberg, Jack Flood, James Richardson, Jake Rendell, Harry Byford, Ryan Crow, Ben Jolliffe, Sam Hibbs, Tom Culpin, Cory Smith

Braintree Town 0 Thaxted Rangers 2
Thaxted's fine finish to the season continued with a highly impressive 2-0 win over good opposition to extend their unbeaten run to six games. The game was played on a pitch that had so much of a slope that had it been snowing the team could have ski'd from one end to the other. In the first half they played up the slope. Throughout the entire game I dont recall a single significant chance that Jonathan Weekes in the Thaxted goal had to contend with due to some rock solid defending yet at the other end Thaxted created plenty. In fact across the park Thaxted put together some exquisite football with the ball being passed about to feet. The commitment was there too and they were challenging for every ball, something that was much less obvious early in the season. The match was settled with two goals, one in each half. In the first a lovely through ball from Luke Ormsby looked for all the world like it was going to be collected by the keeper but Ben Jolliffe had other ideas and he got there first, took the ball around the keeper and hammered it into the roof of the net. Ben also scored the second, this time Alex Gunn took a fine corner from the left-hand side which the keeper could only parry after being put under pressure by Jake Rendell - the ball fell nicely to Ben who wasnt going to miss from that distance. Man of the match was James Richardson. Team: Jonathan Weekes, Bradley Smith, Will Paget, Simon Thornberg, James Richardson, Jake Rendell, Alex Gunn, Luke Ormsby, Cory Smith, Sam Hibbs, Ben Jolliffe, Jack Flood, Harris Tzen, Tom Culpin.

Mayland Village Eagles 0 Thaxted Rangers 5
In true Bank Holiday weekend weather of driving cold rain, winter may have made an unwelcome final flourish but it didnt stop Thaxted putting in one of their best performances of the season. They were quite excellent in the first half with good flowing football being played right across the park. The defence were giants again, the midfield were combative and creative and they gave the forward line some good service who in turn more than played their part as they created a good series of chances. It took a little while to score the first goal but it was always coming - a lovely side-ways pass from Cory Smith put Ben Jolliffe through on goal who lifted the ball into the bottom corner of the goal. The second was a well-taken effort from Cory himself and the third again came from Ben following a lovely through ball from Alex Gunn. The second half wasn't quite as good as the first and credit goes to Mayland who were much more organised and put in a good deal of effort. That said Jonathan in Thaxted's goal didnt have a difficult save to make but was always alert and came out to collect a number of through balls. Thaxted knocked in two second half goals - both good, one from James Richardson and one from Alex Gunn from distance. Alex Gunn who selected the Thaxted team was Thaxted's man of the match and he helped them extend their unbeaten run to five games. Team: Jonathan Weekes, Bradley Smith, Jack Flood, Will Paget, Simon Thornberg, James Richardson, Alex Gunn, Cory Smith, Jake Rendell, Ryan Crow, Ben Jolliffe, Danny Buckley, Tom Cuplin, Harris Tzen

Thaxted Rangers 4 Mayland Village Eagles 3
In a closely fought game Thaxted went in 3-2 up at half-time. Sam Hibbs put Thaxted 2-0 up with identical goals having used hi space to create the chances. Maylands then pulled one back but Thaxted restored the margin when Ryan Crow put away a nice goal following good movement from Simon Thornberg. Maylands never gave up and again pulled one back just before half-time. In the second half there were fewer chances and fewer goals - one from each team in fact. The first was a deserved goal for Simon after a great run by Will Paget. Maylands again pulled one back with a well taken effort to create an exciting end to the game but in the end Thaxted did enough to warrant the win. Thaxted's man of the match was Will Paget. Team: Harris Tzen, Bradley Smith, Will Paget, Ben Jolliffe, Tom Culipn, Danny Buckley, Alex Gunn, Cory Smith, Sam Hibbs, Ryan Crow, Alex Regan, Jonathan Weekes.

Thaxted Rangers 1 Hatfield Peverel 1
Jeremy didnt have to worry about substitutions in this match as there were a bare 11 available due mainly to the Easter holidays. Hatfield were a good team, quite physical, that have a lot of games to play to complete their season and for the first two thirds of the game really took the match to Thaxted. The Thaxted defence of Harris Tzen (in goal), Bradley Smith, Luke Ormsby, Will Paget and Ben Jolliffe were giants throughout this game soaking up pressure for long periods and restricting Hatfield to surprisingly few real attempts on goal. Half time arrived with the score at 0-0. The second half started in the same manner until Thaxted won a free kick on the edge of the Hatfield box. Alex Gunn took the free kick and placed it just inside the left hand post and against the run of play Thaxted were leading. After that though Thaxted were right back in the game, competing all over the pitch, playing some nice football and getting some good attacks in too. Hatfield were under a lot more pressure and when they did eventually score it was a little bit of a surprise and a little fortunate too. The ball apparently did cross the line (just) but Harris maintains it was kicked out of his hands. This set up a good finale but in the end the score was Thaxted's second scoring draw in a row. Man of the match was Ryan Crow. Team: Harris Tzen, Bradley Smith, Will Paget, Luke Ormsby, Ben Jolliffe, Cory Smith, Alex Gunn, Danny Buckley, Jake Rendell, Ryan Crow, Sam Hibbs.
