Thaxted Rangers Under 7's
Torquespeed Youth 2-4 Thaxted, Goals - Ashley 2, Lewis 1, Miles 1

Sunday 18th April 2010, Away to Torquespeed Youth.

Torquespeed Youth 2-4

The boys were all excitable at the prospect of playing today after a break of 3 weeks.

The game started evenly with both sides probing each others defences. Thaxted fought well to protect Beau who was playing his first league game for the Rangers. Lewis and Jamie were solid at the back and Cameron was imposing, playing in his mid-field role, Miles, Jonty and Ashley harried and hassled the Torquespeed defence. It was end to end and not much between the two sides, then Ashley latched onto a Torquespeed clearance and drove his shot in of the post, 0-1 to Thaxted. Torquespeed came right back at Thaxted and drew level after some confusion in the Thaxted area, 1-1.
Beau was called apon to make a couple of saves which kept the scores level at half time.

A tactical change at half time, Lewis and Jamie joining the attack and Cameron and Jonty swapping to defence. The boys began passing well but the game was still finely balanced. Miles came close to scoring several times. Eventually Lewis drove home a left footed shot which left the keeper stranded to make it 1-2. Thaxted seemed to come alive and kept pressing forward, so much so that at times Torquespeed were exploiting the space left behind. Ashley claimed his second slotting home from a fine pass from Lewis who was involved in a great move involving Miles and Jamie who were passing and moving well. Torque spped caught Thaxted napping and pulled another back to make it 2-3.
Both teams fought hard, Torquespeed searching for the equaliser with only minutes to go. Thaxteds nerves were settled when Miles stepped up and banged in the fourth to put the game out of Torquespeeds reach at 2-4.

Sunday 29th November home to Valley green hawks

Thaxted Rangers 9-2 Valley Green Hawks

Today the boys were looking forward to playing Valley Green. With only six players we hastely looked for volunteers to make up the seven. Tom (under 9's) stepped in.

The match underway Thaxted pushed forward and had several attempts saved by Tom (I was beginning to think we'd made a mistake) who was cheered on by the Valley Green parents, who afterwards commented that we were very sporting in giving them such a good goalie.

The pressure was relentless but Valley Green held off until Lewis chipped the ball over his brother into the net for a spectacular opener, 1-0 to Thaxted. A few minutes later Miles fired home a belter to make it 2-0, he is full of confidence infront of goal again. Ashley added Thaxteds third and opened his tally with a well taken goal. Seth with little to do could not stop a great effort as Valley Green pulled one back before the break.

The second half underway Thaxted started to pass the ball well, Jamie in particular stroked the ball around the pitch creating many chances. Miles stroked home to make it 4-1 and Jamie follwed suit with a thoroughly deserved goal, Thaxted lead 5-1. Almost from the kick off Ashley broke free and hammered a goal into the top right hand corner, what a cracker, 6-1. Valley Green battled on and had several chances to score. Lewis and Ashley constantly breaking through and running in on goal had many efforts saved by Tom. Eventually Lewis claimed his second to make it 7-1 after a one-on-one with the keeper. Minutes later miles claims his hat-trick with a shot from the edge of the area, 8-1. Valley Green managed to pull back another and looked for openings but James and Campbell were solid as ever. Campbell venturing forward to take throws, and Ashley with a succession of corners. The game almost done and Lewis crashed a long range effort passed the keeper only to see it hit the post and bounce into the keepers arms. Moments later another chance on the edge of the area, this time Lewis hit a left footed shot to the keepers right and saw it hit the back of the net, his third of the day. Final score, 9-2.

A good display of passing and industry from both teams. Played in good spirit. well done all concerned.

Saturday28th November, Friendly at home to Halstead Utd

The object of the game to give some boys their home debut and to give a full match to those who play as regular subs.

A spirited game in which we had a look at Beau and Oliver on their home debuts, both looked promising; Beau very strong and quick, Oliver good ball control and speed. Charlie had a solid game and Seth and james were busy as the back two and looked quite solid. Lewis, a change in role played in goal and had a cracking game. Campbell and ashley leant some experience to the side. Although Thaxted rarely came close to scoring they gave a good account of themselves.

well done boys.

Sunday 22nd November - Away to Ravens Youth

How would the boys react after last week? Thaxteds fans waited nervously for the kick off.

A well contested first half saw both teams fighting for possesion. Some great passing moves from Thaxted showed promise as both sides awaited the first goal, when would it come ? the minutes ticking away - and up pops Ashley, after some great midfield play to net his first. Great performances from Campbell and James at the back. Jamie passing fluently throughout, Lewis and Ashley winning 90% of the balls in midfield and Miles showing off his silky skills. The game finely poised, Ravens were still very much in it as the half time whistle blew.

The second half saw Rangers start strongly Ashley and Lewis looking very strong and coming close to scoring on several occasions. Five minutes in and Jamie struck a fine effort into the back of the net. Miles who had come close several times hit a lovely shot from outside the area as he let the ball roll across his body before shooting through a crowded area to see it fly agonisingly past the Ravens keepers post.
Ravens fought back well and showed some great determination and Lewis, Ashley and Jamie had to work very hard in midfield to hold them back. Josh and Campbell cleared up any mistakes and looked solid at the back. Seth had little to do but kept his focus and patrolled his area effectively. Ashley, Lewis and Miles probed and passed well and were eventually rewarded when Lewis fired home from inside the penalty area. Jamie dropped back to left back to let Josh have a few minutes in attack, both played well and neither looked out of place. Ashley was again on the offensive and netted his second to put the game out of Ravens reach with only minutes to go. Miles who had been like a whirlwind all through the game was rewarded with a great solo goal after a Ravens counter attack broke down in the centre circle.
The last action of the game, the ref blew for time as Thaxted pressed forward from their half.

An entertaining match contested in good spirit by both teams.

Man of the match - Miles Thorpe

Sunday 15th November 2009 - Home to Great Notley Falcons

Back down to earth with a bump this week. Our visitors faced a depleted side this week, Ashley and Jonty both unavailable.

Great Notley started strongly, a good passing side they soon had the home and visiting fans applauding their play as they made good use of the width of the pitch and used their power and strength to overwhelm the Thaxted defence who were unable to prevent Notley from scoring several times in the first half. There were several good performances today from Lewis, Miles, Campbell to mention a few. Seth heroic in goal could not stem the tide as Notley showed their class.

A better performance from the boys in the second half but Notley were relentless in their counter attacking and netted several more. Though it pains me to see the boys suffer a heavy defeat, we are not the first and we will walk away from this having learnt a lot from the game. We were playing a disciplined side who have obviously been coached well and who on the day were in a different league. So heads up boys (and Parents) lets take this on the chin and look forward to giving a good account of ourselves when we next play them, hopefully with the team at full strength.

Man of the match - All of you

Sunday 8th November 2009 - Away to Beacon Hill Rovers

After last weeks rain sodden episode players and fans enjoyed a dry morning as they set off for Beacon Hill.

The boys were definately up for this one and were knocking in the goals from all areas. A brave Beacon Hill team who struggled to defend against Thaxteds accurate passing, movement and sheer will, never gave up for a moment and had several efforts saved by Seth who never faltered in perhaps his best performance of the season. With so much action in the game it is hard to report accurately so I will comment on performances. Ashley strong throughout enjoyed scoring a hat-trick. Campbell 'the rock' was as solid at the back as usual, and enjoyed a spell in attack in the second half, scoring his first league goal (Let's hope that's got it out of his system!) Josh enjoyed scoring a great goal in the second half and was full of running throughout. Lewis, the 'V8 engine' was superb and added four to his tally of goals. Jamie struck three times and had a great spell at left back in the second half. James played out of his skin and made some great runs down the wing and battled for every ball. Beacon Hill showed great spirit and never gave up trying, they came close several times but Seth managed to get in the way of everything on target. A confident performance which left everyone in good cheer.

Man of the match - James Kinkaid

Sunday 1st November 2009 - Home to Maldon Town

It was cold, it was wet but that did not dampen the enthusiasm of the under sevens. The manager, soaked to the skin after reffing for the under nines thought that he would have a job motivating the boys to play in such foul weather. But fear not, the 'Magnificent Seven (plus subs obviously)' strode onto the pitch in high spirits and brought a little ray of sunshine to the proceedings. Our visitors who most will remember from the warm welcome we received on the away leg were also looking forward to the game.

The formalities and handshakes out of the way, they kicked off to the ref's whistle which could hardly be heard above the pounding rain. The first half saw both teams start strongly, both testing and probing eachothers defences. For twenty minutes they battled through the rain, enternaining the home and way fans alike. Maldon Town, much stronger and better organised than on our previous encounter played their full part in a very close half. Joshua making several interceptions and clearing the danger from his goal area. Campbell patrolling infront of the keeper soaking up all the pressure and passing through to Lewis in mid-field, who in turn showed great skill in his passing to the strikers - Ashley, miles and Jamie who also worked extremely hard trying to break through and score. Ashley in particular almost running himself into the ground. The Maldon keeper had a fantastic first half
stopping everything thrown (kicked) at him.

The second half saw both teams finely poised and both sets of fans nervously awaiting the first goal. again the match was evenly contested with some good counter attacks from Maldon who would have terrorised a lesser defence, but Captain Campbell played out of his skin in possibly his best performance of the season. You could see the confidence grow in the boys as Campbell and James thwarted every attack. Joshua now playing on-field added a fresh pair of legs and used his pace to chase down balls and start counter attacks. Some great passing from both Jamie and Lewis enthused the home supporters. Suddenly the deadlock was broken, Ashley was rewarded with a goal which was well deserved after his industrious first half. Malden went straight on the attack and made the Rangers work hard, but a quick counter attack saw Ashley bag another well taken goal. Once again Maldon stepped up the pace as they tried to get back into the game and Cameron had to make several interceptions and clearances to keep them at bay. Miles, a blur running up and down the wing had several chances, but the next goal fell to Lewis, scoring from a tight angle after a lovely peice of skill, shrugging of all attempts to halt him. With a few minutes to go Jamie netted a fine effort to close the scoring for the day. Without any further goals the teams played out the last few minutes until the whistle blew. Regardless of the score this was a match that had both sets of fans cheering both teams off the field. A game that was closely contested and played in such good spirit that all who witnessed it were proud of both teams. A great mornings football, a pleasure to watch. A heartfelt thank you to Maldon Town whose players, staff and fans helped make this such an enjoyable contest, and of course our own 'rabble' whose encouragement, support and good cheer never faltered.

Man of the match - who could dispute it, Campbell Ure - outstanding.

October 24th 2009 - Friendly. Dunmow United 0 - 6 Thaxted

Despite the grey, overcast and drizzly sky there was a good turnout for the Under 7’s first friendly match. Dunmow united provided the opposition and looked a very organised side as we witnessed their impressive pre-match training routine. The Rangers starting line up comprised of: Lewis, Seth, James, Olly, Charlie, Cameron, Jonty with Ashley and Campbell eagerly waiting on the touchline.

A very close first half saw Dunmow mount numerous attacks but stout defending by James and Seth meant this all amounted to little in the way of shots on Lewis’s goal. During one tackle James sustained an injury which required him to leave the field, he was replaced by Campbell, before bravely returning to field. The game looked to be heading for 0-0 at half time before Jonty received the ball just inside the Dunmow half and then ran forward and squeezed the ball in at the far post.

Further pressure from Dunmow continued but the Rangers’ midfield of Olly, Charlie and Cameron stopped the Dunmow attacks from progressing. Charlie was an inspirational captain, covering the length of the pitch in both attack and defence however he had to leave the field for a short period after being injured. Ashley replaced Charlie and got straight into the game and made several runs at the Dunmow defence and this pressure resulted in a series of corners for Thaxted; however half-time saw the match finely poised at 0-1 to Thaxted.

During the second half, Rangers played with far more confidence and it was not long before Charlie added a second goal after receiving the ball in his own half, running into the opposition’s goal area and skilfully scoring. Charlie scored his second after winning the ball in the tackle and shooting past the goalkeeper. Not to be outdone, Jonty scored a second from a seemingly impossible angle and then grabbed his hat-trick after a poking the ball past the goal keeper in a goalmouth scramble. It was not all one way and Lewis was called on to make a number of saves, he commanded his area with confidence and a clean sheet always looked the most likely outcome.

Rangers sensed more goals with James and Cameron particularly determined and both very unlucky not to score. In the final minutes Ashley and Campbell returned to the pitch replacing Olly and Cameron. Olly was impressive in his debut for Rangers and showed much promise. Ashley grabbed a sixth goal but it seemed the team wanted more with all the players were pushing forward. Ashley continued chasing the ball and selflessly passed the ball to Seth who’s shot was blocked.

The game finished 0-6 to Thaxted Rangers. Charlie was named man of the match, but this was a great team performance and a well deserved victory for the boys.

18th October 2009 - Thaxted Rangers 5 - 3 Wivale Rangers, GOALS - Jamie 2, Josh 1, Lewis 1, Ashley 1

IT'S CLOSER BUT THAXTED MAKE IT FIVE !

On a bright but cool morning the Thaxted team and their entourage made their way to the heart of Chelmsford to face Wilvale Rangers. With a good away crowd (it appeared at times by the cheering that there must have been a few hundred!) Thaxted started more nervously this week but in a matter of minutes found their composure and started passing the ball neatly. How far this team have come in just over a year with various team and individual skills shining through.

It was not long before Jamie "the engine" Graveling opened up the Thaxted account which was claimed after a long range effort from Miles "sure footed" Thorpe. If they were a bit older they would be talking about who scored that one for many years to come. The first goal seemed to settle any early nerves. Thaxted 1 - Wilvale 0

Two minutes later Thaxted put a little more distance between the two teams with Josh "sharp shooter" Hutchinson opening up his account for Thaxted with a well taken goal. With the strength and quality of his shots on goal it certainly looks like he will have a few in the bag by the end of the season. Thaxted 2 - 0 Wilvale

Thaxted continued to apply the pressure and Miles took a long shot which the keeper managed to push round the post. This was followed by some great link up play between Ashley "target man" Adams, and Miles with another good shot from Josh which went just wide. Another good move with Ashley and Jamie saw another shot go just wide.

With Thaxted going close but not getting a third Bryan "the boss" Farmer started pacing up and down the sideline.
Even with relentless pressure from Thaxted it could not prevent a sweeping move from Wivale which led to their first goal which was just slipped past Seth "the cat" Burns, nothing he could do about that one. Not a position that Thaxted have been used to this season and that seemed to spur the team on to apply more pressure with Ashley shooting well and Josh having another shot saved. Campbell "the wall" Ure, and James "blocker" Kinkaid kept further Wilvale attacks under control and helped distribute the ball well up to the midfield.

Thaxted 2 - 1 Wilvale
With about seven minutes to go before half time the benefits of months of training and Bryan telling the boys to "LISTEN" paid off with three players (Josh, Ashley and Jamie) linking up for the third which Jamie swept into the net. Thaxted 3 - 1 Wilvale

At this point Bryan bought on three subs, Jonty "Vicar" Onslow, Lewis "sure shot" Farmer and Cameron "midfield dynamo" Solheim entered the contest.
One more close attack before the half time whistle saw Ashley's shot saved by the keeper and the midfield and defence remained solid and soaked up more Wlivale pressure.

HALF TIME Thaxted 3 - 1 Wilvale

Seth handed over the goalkeepers top to Josh and Seth came out for a run. Energised by the Vitamin C from the oranges it was not long after the restart that Thaxted added another with moments earlier Miles having a shot pushed over the bar by the Wilvale keeper. This time it was Lewis getting his first of the match driving a shot low into the corner of the net. Bryan's half time chat telling the boys to focus a bit more on positional play was starting to pay off. Thaxted 4 - 1 Wilvale

Josh showed his skills in goal with a fine save and this started a passage of play with each team playing out the next six or seven minutes in the midfield with lots of running up and down the pitch. Thaxted nearly got their fifth as Miles hit the post and Bryan used this opportunity to make some more substitutions with Ashley and Campbell taking a well earned rest.

After another close passage of play the skillful forward for Wilvale weaved in and out of the Thaxted players and managed to slip a shot past Josh. What followed was a period of constant pressure from a rejuvenated Wilvale side who were obviously looking for a third. Thaxted 4 - 2 Wilvale

Another fine piece of play this time between Ashley and Jamie saw Jamie shooting only to have his shot saved again by a strong keeper but Ashley followed up to create some space between the two sides again. Thaxted 5 - 2 Wilvale

Thaxted 5 - 3

Thaxted looked like they may make it through to the final whistle with this lead but the last few minutes were to be a bit more stressful for the away fans with the impressive Wilvale striker Tommy getting another goal.
This was one of Thaxted's best displays as they remained resilient even in the face of more pressure and a team who obviously were not going to let Thaxted leave without a fight. At the end of the match the Wilvale manager commented that Thaxted were "the best passing side" he had seen. Well done Bryan and Mark.

Man of the match: Jonty Onslow - for running that left him gasping for air and requesting a cheese roll as he left the pitch towards the end of the match.

Note: man of the match was not chosen by the match reporter, honest!

11th of October 2009, Thaxted Rangers 9 - 1 Focus Ferrers

RANGERS MAKE IT FOUR IN A ROW !!!

On a dull and damp Sunday morning the Under 7 team shone with a dazzling display of football that some older teams would have been proud to produce.

Captain Campbell won the toss and elected to kick off. From the start Thaxted produced some excellent passing and took on the Ferrers defence in a sustained attack. A shot from the Rangers debutant, Joshua challenged the keeper who could only tip it round the post for a corner. A floating corner from Miles found Ashley who drove the ball into the keeper’s arms. Ferrers broke onto the attack to catch the Thaxted defence off guard, and in spite of Jamie’s best efforts, the away team opened the scoring.

Despite the early goal, Thaxted’s lionhearted attitude paid off after Miles equalised within minutes. Thaxted held their shape, and winning the ball from the Ferrers, James made a forward pass to Lewis who passed to Ashley. He then took on two players and passed the ball into the box again finding Lewis, who then scored the second. Focus Ferrers started the attack from kick off but an in form Campbell made sure that they didn’t enter the box. Thumping the ball forward he found Josh who passed the ball to Lewis. Lewis then set up Miles outside the Ferrers box and his stunning long range shot made it 3-1 before half time. Seth replaced James going into right midfield and Josh fell back to partner Campbell in defence.

The second half saw Seth taking over as Goal keeper and Jamie regained his attacking midfield position. Lewis won the ball on the halfway line and jinking first one way and then another took the midfield apart before passing to Ashley. He then slid the ball into the box and Jamie smacked the ball into the bottom corner of the goal. Ferrers rushed forward from the restart and darted into the Rangers box only to witness a stunning display of goalkeeping from Seth who would not allow the Ferrers any chance of a goal. Campbell launched the ball forward and with a strong tackle, Jamie won the ball and passed to Ashley. The forward took the ball passed two defenders and found the back of the net. Strong defending by Josh stopped the visitors in their tracks and Seth’s super goalkeeping denied them any chance of scoring. Ferrers were awarded a free kick just outside the Thaxted box but the shot was again stopped by the elastic Rangers keeper. Following another period of Thaxted pressure, Ashley intercepted a goal kick to crash the ball into the net making it 6-1. After the kick off Joshua won the ball and passed to Miles who skipped through the midfield and made a lightening run into the box only to see his shot hit the post. Another goal kick and another high-speed interception by Ashley, who made it 7. Lewis’s dominance of midfield was never in doubt as he showed his skill by narrowly missing the net. The Ferrers goal kick found Campbell in defence and, clearing the ball, he set up Ashley who was in full flight. Ashley sprinted half the length of the pitch before stopping and firing the ball into the net. James replaced Ashley and Jamie moved upfront. James’ terrier skill hassled the midfield and with Lewis as his partner didn’t give the visitors a second on the ball. Lewis to James, who passed to Miles and who then made a magnificent run before finding Jamie in the box to make it 9.

As the final whistle blew it was clear that this team has come a long way in a short space of time. The structure was strong, from the courageousness of Seth in goal, though the brick wall of Defence of Campbell, Josh and James to the Dominant midfield of Lewis and Jamie and onto the lighting reactions of the striking partnership of Miles and Ashley. Thaxteds 100% record is down to a bunch of boys who not only love playing football but understand the meaning of the word “team” and full credit must go to the coaching staff who have made them what they are; “simply the best”.

Goals - Ashley 4, Miles 2, Jamie 2, Lewis 1.

Fennlands United 0-5 Thaxted Rangers, 4th October 2009

Played at Soaltcoates Park, South Woodham Ferrers.

Having made an early start, a long drive saw the U7s arrive at South Woodham Ferrers on a bright October morning. James was nominated captain for the day and winning the toss elected to kick off. Thaxted were instantly on the offensive and could have had a very early goal, Jonty threading a neat ball into the box, but no-one could take the chance before the goalie cleared up. Justice was soon done as Ashley accurately played in Miles who placed the ball coolly though the keepers legs: 1-0.

Fennlands were denied an equalizer moments later, as Seth bravely gathered the ball before launching a counter attack via Lewis. Campbell fed through to Miles who tested the Fennlands keeper again. Lewis forced a corner and Miles found Ashley in a great position: their keeper, alert to the danger, bravely pounced taking the ball almost off the toes of the Thaxted number 11. A sustained period of Thaxted pressure followed. Lewis taking consecutive corners then heading a clearance back into the box. The ball was worked through to Ashley who had more luck this time finding the net to claim Thaxted’s second goal.

It was not all one way, however, and Fennlands made some good runs deep into the Thaxted half, Campbell and James making good tackles and counter-attacking quickly. The ball was played around the pitch with defensive players pressing forward into offensive positions and forwards dropping back to cover the gaps: Miles in particular made some excellent covering tackles which might otherwise have lead to some embarrassment. (We must work on kepping position in training....Bryan) Fennlands had little chance but to defend in numbers testing the Thaxted’s control of the ball.

Fennlands tried to play the ball out, but James’s close man marking denied them space. The following counter attack found Ashley again who forced an excellent dive from the Fennlands keeper but the acrobatic leap was in vain as the third goal was secured shortly before half time.

Cameron took over the goalkeeping responsibilities at the restart as Seth moved to left back and James to the right wing. Ashley and Jonty took well deserved rests while Jamie came on in midfield. Miles was soon into the fray again skipping over a tackle and charging down the left wing, feeding Lewis who would surely have beaten a lesser keeper. Fennlands were certainly not giving up and fought hard. Campbell took a knock on the head and Ashley came on again whilst the defensive stalwart received some attention. Some good passing from Thaxted put Lewis in the box again but he was denied by the keeper – surely Fennlands man of the match.

Thaxted were still goal hungry and pressing forward, but this left space for Fennlands to counter again. Seth made an excellent tackle safely clearing the ball into touch. Later Jonty, strong throughout the game was clearing up in defence. Campbell returned to the pitch with James making way. Jamie started a Thaxted attack, who pressed forward in numbers, connecting with Miles on the right before Lewis scored a brilliantly taken goal: 4-0.
In perhaps the best move of the game Lewis found Ashley who passed to Miles. Miles played a neat one-two with a very alert Campbell before passing to Lewis who collected his second of the game with an excellent shot after a neat drag- back to make space for himself. Thaxted held on to the 5-0 scoreline, though it must be said Fennlands still kept the pressure on and Thaxted met attack with attack. Campbell came very close to netting the sixth ably supported by Ashley.
It was another all round display of good football form the U7’s and a well deserved win to make it three out of three for this promising squad of young players.

MAN OF THE MATCH ? Some say his boots are made from Kevlar, others that he has three Shredded Wheat for breakfast, but we know him as Ashley Adams.

THAXTED 9-1 TORQUESPEED YOUTH, 27th september 2009

Thaxteds first home game saw players and supporters nervously awaiting kick off. A tentative few minutes passed before the deadlock was broken in a so-far an evenly contested game. A break from midfield saw Miles put through to score rangers first. The boys, nerves settled, they stepped up the pace,Jamie Passes, a run down the right wing by Lewis and a pass driven across the face of the torquespeed goal mouth saw Jamie holding of defenders to slot home number two. Miles suffered in injury with a blow in the face from the football and had to leave the pitch for treatment, Cameron takes to the field in his place. Ashley had a solid display in goal throughout the first half, keepingTorquespeed at bay as they fought back, but a goal mouth scramble before half time saw Lewis rifle home Thaxteds third.

The second half saw Torquespeed start well and soon they got the goal they deserved. (3-1)
Ashley now playing in attack thundered up and down the field, the boys saw several half chances missed and then Ashley drove home number four (4-1)with a great peice of skill. Thaxted spurred on by the goal showed some great passing moves resulting in Ashley netting his second (5-1) No sooner had Torque speed kicked off and Rangers were on the attack with Campbell and James both inches wide of the post. Seth, Jonty and Cameron all played their part breaking up the torquespeed attacks and driving forward. A chance on the edge of the area saw Lewis punching the air after netting his second with a great shot (6-1) Miles, returns to the field and is involved in a great move with Ashley the ball goes wide and Lewis crosses to Jamie who pounces on the cross and shoots to score his second of the match (7-1) Thaxted piled on the pressure and Miles involved in several great moves showed a great peice of individual skill to net his second goal (8-1) With the clock ticking away Lewis rounds up the afternoon by slotting home to make the score 9-1 and bag his hat-trick. Well done boys a great team performance.

MALDON TOWN 2 - 6 THAXTED, 20 September 2009

A well contested 10 minutes at the start of the match had both sets of supporters biting their nails, but the deadlock was about to be broken....a battle in midfield and the ball is knocked through, Ashley runs in on goal and slots home the first for thaxted. Malden fought back strongly but Thaxted had the run of the ball...a quick break down the right involving Lewis, Jamie and ashley. Jamie shoots and Ashley follows it into the back of the net but did he get a touch? Such honesty...Jamie scores number two. Seth looked solid in goal and kept Maldon at bay. Campbell (or is it Gandalf; "Thou shall not pass") and Jonty plugged up most of the leaks in defense. Thaxted kept passing the ball through to the forwards with Cameron sweeping in front of the back two and pushing on into midfield. The score at half time 3-1 to Thaxted after Miles increased the lead with a well taken goal after Maldon had pulled it back to 2-1.

The second half started well with a well earned goal for Lewis after four minutes, who had battled hard all through the game and ram-raided Thaxteds fourth. Maldon switched keepers and the game became physically challenging for both teams., boys from both teams took some hard knocks but bravely battled on.
Thaxted stepped up a gear and came close to increasing the lead several times with efforts from Ashley, Miles and Lewis.
Seth, Jonty, Campbell and Cameron fought like demons to keep the ball in Maldons half, a great ball out from Campbell and a break was on, Miles found himself in space and launched a shot from outside the opponents area which looked to be going over the bar but dipped in for the fifth goal.
Maldon fought back well and managed to finally break through and score past James who had kept them out for most of the second half. With the clock ticking down Miles capped the afternoon with a fine effort to claim his hat-trick.
The boys all celebrated together as the final whistle blew. The parents and coaches applaud the boys off the pitch.

Maldons manager awards seth & James a joint man of the match for their performances in goal
