Thaxted Rangers -7 Sporting 77 Lions- 0
February the 21st was a wet cold miserable morning with a light spattering of snow and heavy rain falling it was uncertain if the match against sporting 77 would even kick off. The away team were warming up and crowd waited in anticipation as they watched Robin the match referee carry out an intense pitch inspection. After the inspection consisting of a stub of his toe into the pitch he blew his whistle and said…” the games on boys”.
There was a roar from the massive crowd of twenty and the Thaxted boys set about warming up .Ian Catchpole put the team through a text book warm up with a fifteen yard dash across the pitch a Jaffa Cake and on return to the touch line he inspected all the boys ensuring they all had a woolly hat, thermal vest and gloves for the battle that was about to commence in the below zero wet windy and snowy conditions.
After speaking to Ian about the text book warm up he commented he would have usually pushed them to twenty yards but he needed to get back to the touch line as quick as possible to claim his sausage sandwich team sponsor Jim Mead has provided for the coaches and parents.
The team talk was given by Thaxteds Coachs Scott Vinter and Rob Hibbs and the team went out onto the field and took their positions .This was a tense moment for Scott Vinter who put out a strong attacking team hoping to capitalise on his tactical decision and wanted to secure an early lead .This was a brave decision as the previous three matches were all very close with nothing between the teams.
The referee blew the whistle and the match kicked off .Thaxted took control of the game and went on the attack almost immediately. Sporting 77 were on the back foot and having to defend. Thaxted kept pushing forward and eight minutes into the game Bradley swept up a poor clearance from the Sporting 77 defence and with a quick look up he drove the ball from the edge of the box. It skimmed and bobbled across the bumpy surface and hit the back of the net. Thaxted -1 Sporting 77 – 0. .
The whole of the first half was dominated by Thaxted. Kian was hardly tested; Nathan and Aaron were solid at the back giving sporting no chance. They not only cleared every attack but with their accurate passing created chances for the forwards. Charlie and William were controlling the game in midfield and Max and Brad pushed forward creating a number of chances .
The fantastic team effort saw a second goal from Charlie who for the second game running opened his account with a net busting drive from outside the box leaving the keeper with no chance. 2-0 Thaxted Rangers. The remainder of the first half saw one chance from Sporting saved by Kian and a goal mouth error with the Keeper and defence in the sporting box leading to an own goal .3-0 Thaxted, Half time.
Second Half.
The first five minutes of the second half saw the same determination and effort from the boys as the first half. They worked as well off the ball as they did on it. This type of play is a real transformation in the team and all the parents and spectators were very complimentary on the performance up to this point in the game. The boys went from strength to strength and goal 4 saw a series of passes from defence a one two from Max and Brad ripping the sporting defence wide open and a lay off from Brad to Charlie to rifle another thunderbolt into the back of the net . 4-0 Thaxted.
Spurred on by a tremendous performance so far, the team continued to hold it shape and push forward with every opportunity. Thaxted were awarded a fifth goal scored by superstar Number 9 net buster Charlie 5-0. The team saw a spell with a slight lack of concentration, but William organised the team and managed to get them through this period with some great passing and defending.
Coach Vinter made a mangegerial decision to protect his lead and changed his team with some fresh legs and rested his strikers Max and Brad who had worked well together and both had several shooting chances .Charlie was also rested after his fantastic contribution of three goals .Tom , Reece and Ben came onto the pitch , Ben made a few challenges to keep possession of the ball and within a few minutes Tom had had a couple of chances and Reece was in the right place in the goal mouth and slotted the sixth goal past the Sporting keeper 6-0 Thaxted.
Aaron finished the game with the seventh goal after a long run from defence and a well directed shot to the bottom corner. This was probably the best performance all season from the under 10s. The boys are now playing as a team and working together with a belief they can win and confidence is running at an all time high.
The sore reflected an excellent performance but the outstanding performance of the match was from William who received a majority of the supporters votes to win a well deserved man of the match. .

Thaxted Rangers - 1 Notley Hawks Youth - 1.
The boys turned up this week with quite a few players missing which left us with just seven players and no substitutes and Reece not feeling well either but they soldiered on to the field.
The first half was outstanding the boys played realy well the deffence was solid, and the midfiield played some excellent football passing the ball well and some great shots on target from our strike force. Notleys keeper seemed to be there bussiest player on the pitch, and Thaxted could have been 3 or 4 goals up by half time but the half time whistle went and it was 0-0.
The second half started quite even with notley catching us on the break a few times. But the break through came midway through the secound half and after alot of pocession notley were pined back in there half, and thaxted took the advantage with a well worked play with tom macrea sliding in the goal. Thaxted 1-0 up. There was about fifteen minutes left to play and notley started playing desperate to get back in to the game. They caught us on the break again and scored. Thaxted -1 Notley -1, Ten minutes left to play and this was end to end stuff, with both teams going for it. and thaxted went down to 6 players when reece left the pitch due to illness. (he wasnt well but he still played most of the game). The last minutes were counting down with both sides giving everything, and both sides could have scored.
Final Whislte Thaxted 1 - Notley 1.

Thaxted Rangers 1 Broomfield Youth 2.
After a long awaited return to the pitch following the Christmas break and relentless wet weather ,the under 10s returned raring to play football. Thaxted held possession of the ball and created some excellent chances pinning Broomfield youth into their own half.
The defence looked cool calm and collected and the midfield held possession with some skilful passing and one touch football.Thaxted pushed forward dominating the match with some pin point accuracy passing. Thaxted had several shooting chances making the Broomfield keeper work hard to keep them in the game. The boys worked well as a team but could not put he ball past the Broomfield Goal keeper.
Midway through the first half Broomfield started to find their form and created a number of chances. The game went from end to end with the Thaxted keeper pulling off a number of spectacular saves to keep the rangers in the game.
Broomfield kept pressing and just before half time they made a quick break against the run of play and were rewarded with a well worked goal leaving the keeper with no chance 1-0 Broomfield
Second Half.
The boys came out with their heads held high and continued to fight for every ball creating a number of chances. Thaxted continued to make a number of excellent passes and the game was end to end with both teams creating chances to score. Thaxted were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and a delightful chip from William went just over the bar .Thaxted continued pushing forward and defending well.
With a well worked move Thaxted unleashed their secret weapon with a lay off from Max Charlie drove the ball from the edge of the box which flew into the back of the net and almost through it 1-1 .Broomfield and Thaxted continued to battle for every ball and defender Aaron swept a shot from the goal line keeping Thaxted in the game . Broomfield piled on the pressure looking for the win but Kian continued to make save after save. Kian was so brave he even decided to save one shot with his face. Goal keeping Coach Bradley Osborne said …” Kian will be fine, I have saved a number of shots with my face and its not spoilt my good looks “?
After a moments silence and a wipe with the sponge Kian rose to his feet to continue with the game .Thaxted were put under pressure for the last few minutes of the game and a few goal mouth scrambles led to a second goal from Broomfield 2-1. Thaxted tried to pull back the goal to draw the game but ran out of time. This was an excellent performance by the boys who played very well and showed a real team spirit.
Man of the match awarded to Kian for another spectacular goal keeping performance .

At last our first home game in front of a great crowd of supporters. The boys started of really well creating two great chances within minutes of kick off. They have started to
gel as a team and its beginning to show with the defence talking to each other and working well as a solid force at the back. A strike force that had some great touches between them to grab us an early lead but maldon put up a great fight and pulled one back just before half time. The second half saw Thaxted running the show with some brillant chances of taking the lead again but it was just gonna be one of those days again when whatever we tried it wouldn go in but i think if the boys just take there time i think this will come in time . A great effort from all the boys and the most inportant think is we kept our home game un beaten. Man of the match Bradley Adams

Thaxted Rangers 2 Notley Hawks 1
What a fantastic rematch with the Hawks the boys turned up ready for a battle and thats what happened they tackled hard and fought for every ball and helped each other and were rewarded by a great goal from Bradley set up by Reece to take the lead .The defence of Aaron, Nathan, and Max was on top form with our goal keeper Kian having a quiet first half. We had a team talk at half time and the second half saw the strikers Ben,Reece and Brad worked well together and started passing like we know they can .We was 2-1 up with five min's to go and Notley brought on four fresh players knowing our boys had run there socks of an we could'n make a change but the boys saw this and gave everything in defence to be rewarded at the end with a much deserved win. Well done for battling hard and the hunger to win. Men of the Match Bradley Adams,Aaron Bassett and Nathan Catchpole.

A trip to Notley on a gorgeous day .This was a great match to watch with end to end stuff Notley took the early lead but not for long with great work from Ben and a deflection off Bradley Thaxted was back in it Notley scored again through a a moment of weakness in our otherwise solid defence of Aaron,Max and Nathan and some great tackling and passing from reece.Bradley was brought down just outside the box and took the free kick and smashed into the top of the net to bring it back to 2 all. Just before half time they beat our great keeper only to be cleared of the line by Nathan but Notley scored in the 30th min of a 25 min half lol. What a start to the new season. We started with the minimum number of players, the bare seven! With Kian in goal and a new look defence this year of Aaron, Nathan and Reece who were all outstanding in this match; giving Kian just a couple of saves to make through the whole game. The new striking force of Max, Brad and Ben worked wonders, we were all so shocked, they had turned up ready to work hard as a team and went in and won most of their challenges and the passing amongst our defence and strikers was like watching England destroy Croatia. A joy to watch! Goals came from Max, Brad, Reece and Ben. We could not single out any one person for man of the match as this was the best team performance we had seen.
